Who it's for
Description
Spirulina Platensis Extract comes from spirulina, a blue-green microalgae that’s rich in proteins, amino acids, pigments, and antioxidant compounds. In skincare and haircare, it’s mainly used as a conditioning, soothing, and antioxidant-support ingredient. You’ll often see it in formulas aimed at helping skin look fresher and more resilient, while also supporting a smoother, softer feel.
For skin, spirulina extract may help defend against everyday environmental stressors and can contribute to a more hydrated, comfortable look and feel. In hair products, it’s used to help improve the feel of strands and support a healthier-looking finish. It can be a nice fit for people with dull, tired-looking skin, dry-feeling skin, or hair that needs a little extra conditioning.
Caveat: while spirulina extract is generally considered a supportive cosmetic ingredient, it’s not a miracle fix and results depend on the full formula. As with any botanical or algae-derived ingredient, very sensitive users may want to patch test, especially if they know they react to marine or plant extracts.
