Descriptif

Kojic Acid is a skin-brightening ingredient made through the fermentation of certain fungi and used in cosmetics to help fade the look of dark spots and uneven tone. It works mainly by slowing tyrosinase, an enzyme involved in melanin production, so it’s often found in serums, creams, soaps, and spot treatments aimed at discoloration from sun exposure, post-blemish marks, or general dullness. In hair products, it may be used more for scalp or cosmetic formulation purposes than for a major hair benefit.

People who want a more even-looking complexion or are targeting hyperpigmentation often reach for kojic acid, especially when they prefer a non-retinoid brightening option. That said, it can be a little irritating for some skin types, particularly if used too often or alongside other strong actives. Sensitive skin may do better with lower concentrations or less frequent use. As with many brightening ingredients, consistency matters, and daytime sunscreen is important when you’re working on discoloration.
