Descriptif
Laureth-2 is a synthetic ingredient made by ethoxylating lauryl alcohol, which turns it into a mild surfactant and solubilizer. In plain terms, it helps oil and water mix, so it’s often used in cleansers, shampoos, body washes, and some lotions or makeup products. It can improve spreadability, help formulas feel smoother, and assist in lifting away dirt, excess oil, and product buildup from skin and hair.
For skin and hair, Laureth-2 is mostly a formulation helper rather than a star active. People with oily skin or those who use richer, more stubborn products may benefit from formulas that include it because it helps cleansing products work more effectively. In hair care, it can support a cleaner rinse and a lighter feel. That said, as with many surfactants, it may be too drying or irritating for some very sensitive or barrier-impaired skin, especially in high-cleansing products.
Caveat: Laureth-2 is not an ingredient that treats skin concerns on its own. Its main job is making a product perform better. If your skin is easily irritated, look at the whole formula, since the overall cleanser or shampoo matters more than this ingredient alone.
