CI 77288 is a green inorganic pigment, chemically known as chromium oxide green (Cr2O3). In cosmetics, it’s used purely for color: it can give formulas a muted olive, mossy, or earthy green tone, and it’s valued because the shade is stable, opaque, and doesn’t fade easily. You’ll most often see it in makeup, nail products, and some personal care items where a strong, earthy green is needed.
For skin and hair, CI 77288 doesn’t provide treatment benefits on its own, but it can help create the look of a product that evens out tone, adds depth, or delivers a specific color effect. It may be useful in concealers, color correctors, eye products, and hair color cosmetics for people who want natural-looking green-brown or camouflage shades. Because it is a pigment rather than an active ingredient, its role is aesthetic rather than skincare-focused.
Caveat: CI 77288 is not permitted in lip products in the United States, so it should not appear in lipsticks, glosses, or similar formulas sold there. As with any color additive, people with very sensitive skin or eyes may prefer to patch test new products, especially if the formula is used near the eye area.
